M1 - Settings Detail

Introduction

For this document, I'll address what equipment and lighting techniques I will use in the music video. This will help me by addressing what I'll need to get and do before starting the production of the music video.

Camera

For a camera I will be using a DSLR camera. It is small and easy to carry around and has the features that are required for making my music video. With the use of a tripod, the size would be perfect for using while doing still shots on the music video.

Camera Settings

The camera is fully manual with the reason being the control that it allows for making the video. If it were to be automatic, it would make some shot worse or even make them too blurry. For the ISO of the camera, it will be an ISO 400. Since I need it to be more darker environment, I've decided to have a lower ISO to be able to create a different mood in the shot. For the Aperture setting, I'll have it at 4.0 so that less light is taken from the lamp posts. For most of the shots, I'll be manually selecting the focus since it will allow me to bring out my ideas better.

Lighting

There will be three different types of lighting that I'll use. One of them will be Hard lighting which will be seen throughout most of the music video. Since most of the shots will be dark, this technique will be used the most because of the environment in the filming scene. This is so that the character also stands out within the darkness while still filming in a dark environment. Another lighting technique that will be used is

Types of lighting In this section, I'll be talking about the different types of lighting that are used.  This was taken using a three point lighting setup. A three point setup includes a key light, a fill light and a backlight.  The key light is placed in front of the subject and is the brightest light. The camera is placed close to the key light to get the central position of the subject and the camera may be placed at eye level. It is better to choose a light that has different temperature settings, intensity and control as it will give better results. This helps to account for skin tones and different backgrounds. 45 degrees is an ideal angle for the key light setup. In this picture, the camera would be placed in between the key light (on the left) and the fill light on the right where the fill light would be almost a 45 degree angle.
