M2 - Reflection to generic conventions

Introduction For this document, I'll be going more in-depth about my music video. I will explain it in different sections which will be: Cinematic Footage Music Video Style Performance Generic Conventions Cinematic Footage Lighting Technique Music Video Style Style The styles of the music video will be a Narrative but also have elements of it being Animated. The entirety of it will follow a Narrative with a set story and the video will transition to Animated on more key parts. Genre The genre of the music video will be a mix of synthwave and metal. It will mostly be metal since I'm using a metal cover of the original song but there are some elements of synthwave in it. Inspiration The inspiration comes from the art style of Gorilaz music videos where they create an animated sequence with their respective characters. Another inspiration comes from the game Don't Starve and its art style. It is somewhat similar to Gorilaz in a way that makes it gothic and simplistic. Performa...

M1 - Settings Detail

Introduction For this document, I'll address what equipment and lighting techniques I will use in the music video. This will help me by addressing what I'll need to get and do before starting the production of the music video. Camera For a camera I will be using a DSLR camera. It is small and easy to carry around and has the features that are required for making my music video. With the use of a tripod, the size would be perfect for using while doing still shots on the music video. Camera Settings The camera is fully manual with the reason being the control that it allows for making the video. If it were to be automatic, it would make some shot worse or even make them too blurry. For the ISO of the camera, it will be an ISO 400. Since I need it to be more darker environment, I've decided to have a lower ISO to be able to create a different mood in the shot. For the Aperture setting, I'll have it at 4.0 so that less light is taken from the lamp posts. For most of the sho...

This is the final edit for the music video "Nightmare" by the band "Set it off". We decided to edit the product on Adobe After Effects as this gave us a wider range of options we were not able to demonstrate using Premiere Pro and this helped to create a more exciting product.  With our video, we had a variety of choices to make. One of the first choices we had to create a transition between two scenes. This is because of an error when filming which required us to edit a section of a clip out and this led to a smoother transition between the two scenes. This actually helped to bring the two clips together and adding to the style we wanted.  For our introduction we chose to have some moving text of the song title and artist. It changed between two fonts to show the changes we also added torn edges to the border to make it fit the style we were wanting. We added key frames to the effect and adjusted it's scale between the keyframes to make a "pulsating...

P5/P6 - Lighting and Camera Settings

Rushes  This is some of the rushes we have selected to use as part of this report P5 I have chosen to look at the chorus for examples of our lighting settings. We created this shot by using Two point lighting. We used a red as the main light and a white light to help fill it in to create two shadows and have an almost a devil-on-the-shoulder look as this is something linked to the genre of music. The darker light also benefitted us to fit the conventions of an alternative music video.  We used red as my main colour which relates to the punk aesthetic. This colour was used in frequently by My Chemical Romance in their videos in the example below Gerard way has his hair dyed red. In punk , red is often used to symbolize rebellion, passion, and energy, it is also linked to anger a theme sometimes linked to punk but is not always accurate. It is a bold, attention-grabbing colour that can add a sense of urgency and intensity to the work. By using red as my main colour, we are ...

Treatment Production Team  As I joined into this group at a later date as originally I was going to work alone, I had to work out with the rest of my group what role I would play in it. Creating a music video will require us to take on a lot of roles. Most importantly, we will need actors to perform, someone to film the video, a person to set up the lights, an editor to edit our music video, a set designer, costume and makeup artist. We may also need a foley artist for any foley effects we may need or include in our music video for diegetic sound. Faith's roles: Cinematographer, foley artist, joint editor Liam's roles: Actor, costume and makeup artist, set designer, joint editor My Role: Lighting, Cinematographer, help with editing (arranging footage) Concept/idea: For our music video choice we are using the song Nightmare by Set It Off to demonstrate our cinematography skills. We will look at using amplification with themes of narrative in our video. In the music video, our ch...
