P7 - Post production
This is the final edit for the music video "Nightmare" by the band "Set it off". We decided to edit the product on Adobe After Effects as this gave us a wider range of options we were not able to demonstrate using Premiere Pro and this helped to create a more exciting product.
With our video, we had a variety of choices to make. One of the first choices we had to create a transition between two scenes. This is because of an error when filming which required us to edit a section of a clip out and this led to a smoother transition between the two scenes. This actually helped to bring the two clips together and adding to the style we wanted.
For our introduction we chose to have some moving text of the song title and artist. It changed between two fonts to show the changes we also added torn edges to the border to make it fit the style we were wanting. We added key frames to the effect and adjusted it's scale between the keyframes to make a "pulsating" look to add more depth to the animation. Also, we added an expression to the text called "wiggle" to make the text shake which helped create the desired unease.
On this screenshot we can see the different compositions used to group the different font sequence together and this allowed us to create changes to the sequence altogether instead of changing each piece and taking more time. Additionally, it helped to keep the timeline shorter and tidier as it meant that less layers were present..
Here is what things looked like inside the composition where we can see the different font layers for "Nightmare" and "By Set It Off". Each layer changes the font with colour and position staying consistent.
In this screenshot it shows how we used opacity changes in the chorus editing. This was done by using keyframes in order to transition between the clips and then being able to establish a dreamy state to show the chorus as a surreal place. Using this opacity change also helped change clips because we could then run both clips simultaneously and just adjust the first layer's opacity to make the second layer become visible.
We did unfortunately have some corrupted footage. This is a portion of the footage which had become damaged and was unusable. If we had more time we could of looked into a way of sorting the footage or refilming it so we could include it as part of the edit.
Exporting
For the file type to export to we chose the MP4 file format as to save space and export a high quality file. The final file was a 381.5 mb size file that allowed us to share and upload the file to social media with ease. As part of the export settings we chose the H.264 output module preset as this helped to will reduce the bitrate of the video file without affecting the quality. This is a very common export setting for video in the industry.
Overall we are very happy with out finished product and although we have created video products on previous units, this gave us the opportunity to look deeper into the features and setting of cameras and experiment with lighting to create out footage. There is some things we could change if we were to redo the project such as making more time to film and edit the project as this could give us opprtunity to experiment further. This could of been sorted in the planning process. Despite this I am very happy with what we achieved
